VTU Exam Circular- Conduct of UG/ PG/ Practical Exams of Jan/ Feb 2023

VTU Exam Circular released today with regard to the conduct of Jan/ Feb 2023 exams. The circular is issued to address the issues faced by the students such as nonavailability of PDC and transcript, delay in result announcement.

Below issues have led to the delay in the various processes:
1. Wrong Entry of form-A. form-B and editing of form-A.

2. Delay in submission of Internal marks.

3. Wrong entry in the Answer script and OMR sheet

4. Non mapping of subject and faculty before examination.

5. Delay in freezing of internal marks at different levels.

 

Following measures are suggested for the respective responsible persons.

Person Responsible	Action to be taken
Deputy Chief Superintendents	Ensure that there is no wrong entry of Form-A
Room Invigilators	Enure that there is no wrong entry in Form-B, Answer script and OMR sheet
Principal, Heads of department, Teaching Faculty	Ensure Subject Mapping, IA Entry and Freezing is done in timely manner.

VTU Suspends Classes and Labs for 3 days

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Bommai has ordered the closure of high schools and colleges for the next 3 days due to the ongoing controversy over HIJAB.

As per the latest circular, VTU has suspended classes and labs for 3 days on 9th, 10th and 11th Feb 2022 adhering to the Govt Order. However, the VTU Exams will be held as per the scheduled time table. The suspension applies only to students.

VTU Circular On Strict Guidelines to Curb COVID-19

The Government of Karnataka has issued strict guidelines to curb the spread of the new COVID-19 variant OMICRON as the Karnataka COVID cases has seen a spike in the last two weeks.

As per the new VTU circular dated 13th Jan 2022, the restrictions previously imposed is extended from 19th Jan 2022 to 31st Jan 2022 upto 5 am. Additionally, section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code is imposed to enforce social distancing. Furthermore, there shall be intensive surveillance at Maharashtra, Kerala and Goa boarders.

 

Preiously these were the restrictions imposed:

• Night curfew imposed from 10 pm to 5 am on all week days.
• Night curfew effective from 5th Jan 2022 to 19th Jan 2022.
• Weekend curfew from Friday 10 pm to Monday 5 am.
• Schools & Colleges except 10th, 11th & 12th standard classes and Medical to remain closed from 6th Jan 2022.
• Cinema halls/ theatres to operate at 50% capacity.
• Restaurants/ hotels to function at 50% capacity.
• Swimming pools & Gyms to operate at 50% capacity.
• Malls & Shopping complexes to operate as usual on weekdays.
• Entry restricted to only fully vaccinated persons.
• Religious places only open for Darshan, No sevas allowed.
• Marriage functions maximum 200 persons allowed in open spaces and 100 persons in closed spaces.
• Public transport including BMRCL will be available during the weakend curfew for emergencies.

We could not find any official link or official circular regarding a recent VTU press note with respect to July 2021 Exams. There is only one news item published only by The Hindu (www.thehindu.com/news/national/karnataka/vtu-allows-students-to-opt-for-online-offline-classes/article35409961.ece).

Even according to this said press note, it is still not clear if exams will be conducted for even semesters (2, 4 & 6 sem) or results will be announced as per 2020 UGC guidelines and promotion of even semester.

Important: No official circular or notification regarding promotion of even sem from the University yet.

UGC Guidelines July 2021- VTU Exams 2021

As per the latest UGC guidelines regarding the conduct of examinations below are the important points to be noted:

1.The University must mandatorily conduct the Terminal or final year examinations 2020-21 by 31st August 2021.

2.The final year examinations may be conducted in offline/ online/ blended mode.

3.Assessment of intermediate semester/ year students is on the basis of internal evaluation and previous semester as per 2020 UGC guidelines.

But, UGC guidelines also say that the present guidelines are subject to the guidelines issued by AICTE in the 7th point as highlighted below. So, if there is a advisory or directive from AICTE regarding the examinations. The university will have to follow it. However, if no directive is issued by AICTE. The above UGC guidlines must be followed.

There is no official announcement regarding examinations being cancelled from either the State Government or VTU in relation to the recent UGC guidelines. So, we will have to wait for an official confirmation from VTU.

What is Open Choice Question Paper in VTU?

The Vice-Chancellor of VTU, Karisiddappa announced the Open Choice Question Paper for Final year students and for the even semester exams that are to be conducted in 2021. This is the first time that VTU has come up with such an initiative. The main reason behind this being the pandemic situation and the syllabus not being completed for this academic year.

So, what is open choice question paper?

In the earlier VTU question paper format, the question paper had 5 modules or units and you were supposed to answer 5 questions by selecting 1 question from each module.

As per the new question paper format, you can answer any 5 questions out of the 10 questions given.

For example, You can answer either 2 questions from the 1st module, 2 questions from the 2nd module, and 1 from any other module.

 

Benefit of open choice question paper

1.You can choose to study just 3 modules of your choice.

2.Convenient for the students as you need not study all the 5 modules.

1.Final year students writing exams in 2021.

2.Even semester Regular students writing exams in 2021.

VTU Classes for 2nd semester BE/B.Tech/B Plan/B.Arch to start from 19th May 2021 and VTU 2nd Semester classes to start from 10th May 2021 for M.Tech/MBA/MCA/M.Arch.

All classroom sessions would be in ONLINE mode through e-learning and digital learning.

The examinations of Visvesvaraya Technological University to be conducted from 27th April 2021 and onwards stands postponed. The revised timetable for the remaining exams will be updated shortly.

Statewide lockdown to be imposed for the next 14 days starting from 27th April 2021, Tuesday 9:00 pm till 9th May 2021. All essential services will be allowed from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. Essential shops allowed to function from 6:00 am to 10:00 am every day. All public transport services to be off the road.

Important: We should be expecting an official circular from VTU regarding 1st Exams anytime.

VTU released a circular stating that students who have completed their graduation under the CBCS scheme can apply for Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC) and Official Transcript online. The important thing to note is that the CBCS must apply for the documents through a new portal EDGS.

VTU announces MBA results for 1st semester to 4th semester today at 7:40 pm.

VTU Press Release

VTU had earlier released a press release at 12:30 pm today regarding the first-semester examinations and commencement of the even semester. However, the circular was removed from the official VTU website in a short time. Maybe the press release was published by mistake, or they want to revise any of the details. The reason is not known.

In view of the rising COVID numbers & recent curfew announcement by the Government of Karnataka, we are not publishing the said press release because we do not want to create confusion among the students who are already burdened with the exam tension in this pandemic. We will wait for a press release to be published on the official VTU website.

As soon as we get an official word, we will update it here first.

The extension is only for the students who have not filled the examination application form due to critical problems and the students who face issues filing the exam application form.

THERE IS NO CHANGE IN THE THEORY OR PRACTICAL EXAMINATION DATES OF UG AND PG PROGRAMS, and VTU will conduct the examinations as per the already circulated schedule.

VTU offline Exams - Case in High Court of Karnataka

While issuing notice, the Bench of Justice R Devdas orally commented,

"It is not for this Court to take this kind of decision. Officers of the University have taken a decision as per the Standard Operating Procedure issued by the the Central and State government".

The Single Bench further added that even the High Court was conducting offline exams for civil judges at present.

The matter is expected to be taken up next week.
